Weird, Wacky and Wild: The Story of Behind Michael Morrow & Philip Mascher’s Nutcase Helmets.

Nutcase Helmets

Once a non-fashionable statement, helmets entered the scene as a canvas to Michael Morrow in 2000 when he left his dream job at Nike as a Creative Director. With a college degree in art, Michael set out to enter the helmet marketplace and, 14 years later, now produces helmets for bikers, skaters, and snowboarders internationally. As an Oregonian it is only right that Michael received his first publicity in an Oregon game, between the University of Oregon and Oregon State University. A homemade Beaver helmet got its first advertisement in Corvallis, and the rest is history.

The company began with Michael and his wife creating every helmet until 2007 when manufacturing had to meet a bigger quota. Now with a crew of 13, Nutcase is based in Portland and continues to model an Oregon Brand. With the motto project and protect yourself, Nutcase has created a global following of nutcases writing, blogging, and showcasing their helmet subculture. From kids to adults, the community contributes to the growth of the Nutcase. The variety of designs continues to flourish as they have started an artist series.
